June 2008 | Eurowings personnel train airport staff at Usedom

Fit for the Summer flight schedule: To find out whether the airport at Heringsdorf was ready for handling the new Eurowings flights for Lufthansa in Summer 2008, Stefan Freitag, Quality Manager Ground Services, completed a stations assessment (HCQA) on Germany's most sun-flooded island.

During the present summer flight schedule, flights to Heringsdorf airport in the extreme Northeast of Germany on the border to Poland will be operated by Lufthansa every Sunday, and additional flights every Thursday during the school vacation period in North Rhine Westphalia, from Düsseldorf. As a result of the stations check, Stefan Freitag and his Eurowings team drew up a plan of actions to ensure that all flights would be handled at the proper level in Heringsdorf.

The first four flights were supervised by a colleague from Ground Services, who acted as staff instructor at the airport. „Besides, Michael von der Brelie, Head of Handling Services, conducted a theoretical training course for airport staff to train them in the check-in and check-out procedures specific to Eurowings and CRJ.“ Topics included the operator's responsibility, the requirement guidelines of Lufthansa Regional Verbund, operational monitoring, Eurowings fleet information and a number of check-in/check-out procedures. After handling the fourth flight, the staff check-out was handled by us directly, Stefan Freitag adds.
